Hey guys. I am trying to repair a computer I got from a friend. It is a Compaq Presario S6500NX. It has a AMD Athlon XP 3000+. 512MB DDR. 160GB HD. It supposedly had XP installed on it. When I tried starting it kept giving me the error windows failed to start. After trying a couple things without any results I booted up Ulimate Boot Disk and deleted partitions and decided to start from scratch. I put in a brand new XP CD in and it started doing its install thing. It then says “Windows is starting up” It goes black and then a blue screen comes up with this error “STOP: c0000221 unknown Hard Error \SystemRoot\System32\ntdll.dll. How do I fix this?
When I had the problem I installed Linux. After the linux installation I installed XP with no problems. Any version of linux will work.

wild goose chase installing linux to then install xp.
You need to get all the compaq drivers for that unit since the 'generic' ones installed may not talk correctly to the hardware.
You add the correct driver when you see F6 in the lower left corner during install.
