Maybe someone can help me; I am running office 97 on a new install of xp pro and ms photo editor will not open jpegs saved from the internet. I get the 'unknown file format' error. If I open them with paint they open fine and I can save them as jpegs and then they open just fine. The jpeggm32.flt file appears to be ok. tried reinstalling office
but to no avial. Is MS photo editor incompatible with XP, or is something else going on. Thanks

Richard

although MSO 97 will work with Windows XP to a certain extent, MSO 2000 or higher is recommended to be used with windows XP

there are many known compatibility issues.

if you don't want to spend big money to upgrade, try this free alternative:

and here's an excellent free image editor, far more sophisticated than MS photo editor:

Thanks for the help guys. I found that in xp you have to open the jpeg from within MS photo editor for it to work. I'll give open office a try i think, i don't use office except for word much anyways, again thanks
