Comment:

I identified an unknown ethernet controller on my computer to be a Realtek RTL8139 Family Fast Ethernet NIC. I've searched on the realtek website (and several other driver sites) and downloaded the latest drivers, but I was unable to install them. Windows keeps saying they are not the right drivers. I am positive that the unknown device is the nic, but I've run out of options. thanks in advance.

Is this an add-on card or onboard? If it's onboard then the drivers should be on the installation disk of the mobo or you could try this url:

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=Realtek+RTL8139+nic+&spell=1

It lists quite a few site for the drivers

Did you try inserting the mother board support cd and than allow the new hardware wizard to search for them...

Or find the install folder on the cd manulay and click on the installation icon...

The link above will take you to the web site where your controller is listed...

You should be able to get the drivers from there....

thanks for all of the suggestions. the card is not onboard, its PCI. I've done the search on google and have downloaded about 10 different drivers. unfortunately, i dont have the original cd that the card came with. I have downloaded the drivers from realtek's website, but they give me the same problem. I'm going to try switching the card to a different pci slot..

Yep that can happen, eather a irq conlfictm but if it was it should have told you...

Or the thing may have not been seated correctly, and by moving it to another slot may have fixed this..

The main thing is that its working...

Enjoy
