my prob is, i installed a SP3 version. but now i can't run a couple of programs that is supposed to be in the system. So i decided to use the SP2 version instead. I tried searching in the "Add or Remove Prog." but the only OS that could be uninstalled there was the SP2, which i don't want to remove.

First, go to My Computer and right click on it and choose properties. What version of Windows does it say there?

I think you have to show in add and remove. A small check box.

guess a system restore point might be better.

You'd be better off fixing the programs. An unpatched system is a security risk.

"Best Practices", Event viewer, host file, perfmon, antivirus, anti-spyware, Live CD's, backups, are in my top 10

it is a 2002 version.

seriously? would a system restore be better?? 'coz i thought it would only restore the the applications and not the OS. Are there precautions i have to know before restoring it? And would there be any data loss? Because i would be so screwed if i messed up some applications.

i checked "the" check box on the "Add and Remove P", which shows the updates, it showed the "Windows XP- Software Updates" and a bunch of stuff subbed below it.

Do i uninstall the software updates or would i just restore it?

You didn't answer my question. I suspect your SP3 install went bad and you aren't even running SP3. If you follow my instructions it will tell you what service pack you have installed.
