Can anyone believe this!!!
1.I was in the process of installing a program.
2. It locked the computer during the install.
3. Then the computer kept rebooting itself just as it started to go into windows.
I Restarted it using F8 and chose the Last known Good config that worked.
Now I am in windows...The program that was installing itself only partially installed.
4. The program does NOT run.
5. The program does NOT appear in the Windows Add/Remove.
6. I go to reinstall it and it comes saying that it is already installed and I have to remove it before reinstalling!!! - DOES NOT APPEAR IN ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS.

I ran I reasonable registry checker...found errors and repaird them...STILL THE SAME PROBLEM.....WON'T LET ME INSTALL THE PROGRAM.

I guess we get the gist of what has happended!!!

Why can I NOT manually go into the registry and remove this stupid chaos that windows XP has created!!!!

Does an Apple Mac have these stupid issues???

Thanks in advance to anyone that can advise.

Dunno but what does this question have to do with Windows? As a matter of fact every OS have their own issues, and nothing in life is made to be perfect.

To see if it gets removed
Try System Restore to a date when all was good.
Start >All Programs >Accessories >System Tools

Using System Restore too many times can cause
more harm than good. After doing a restore
that does not fix a problem, then UNDO the
Restoration, and try another restore point, or
just do the UNDO.

Try a search for the program from the start menu. If there is a file with the program listed, then delete the file and everything in it. Then check the registry for errors and try re-installing the program, if you want it.

I have no doubt you know how to edit the registry. The problem is, you don't know what to look for. In my experience there are many pointers for a program that don't seem to relate to the program by name. I suggest trying a registry cleaner.

What type of installer routine did this program use? (InstallShield, WindowsInstaller, etc).

Both of the ones mentioned above leave some "chaff" behind -- perhaps WindowsInstaller [*.msi) more than others. In the latter case, you can download a free clean-up utility from Microsoft (msicuu.exe). I would not be at all surprised it was using the Windows Installer -- and it has left an *.msi behind, which would explain the "already installed" problem.
