Ok, I needed to run a system repair on my XP home PC. Simple right? Well, I accidently used a XP Pro cd to run the repair & the PC now thinks it's a XP Pro & wants me to install the product key which isn't available.
I can't log into the PC now because I'm beyond the 30 or 60 "trial" period. How can I uninstall XP Pro & bring it back to XP home?
Also, I did find the original XP Home CD.
I tried re-running the repair from the XP Home CD, but the option to repair isn't there. Also, the system restore has nothing to restore to. If I log into the PC in safe mode, there is no "uninstall XP pro" option in control panel.
As a last ditch effort, I did do a files & settings backup, but I can't really re-install all the software & I'd rather not do that.
Any ideas anyone?

Your only solution is to delete the existing installation of XP PRof and Reinstall XP Home from scratch.
Basically what you did when you did the repair with XP Prof was to do an upgrade from Home to Prof. However you cannot do a downgrade which is what XP Prof to XP Home is.

He is right thats pretty much the only thing you can do, just format your hardrive and reinstall windows xp home edition by booting from the cd

One thing I noticed...Bil's PC is a HP. If this is true, he may not have the native XP CD Home Edition CD other than system restoration CD. System restoration CD is destructive in that it will put everything back to the way the PC left the factory.
