Subject: uninstall Jmicron drives - NO DVD dOS: WinXP SP3CPU/Ram: Intec core 2 6420 - 2GBModel/Manufacturer: self build |
Comment: Hi, Im having problems which ill post separately but i believe this may be part of the cause (as its is one of the 3 errors in the log files (jraid (9), cdrom (15) and disk(51)). Basically if i uninstall the Jmicron (raid?) drivers from xp on reboot my dvd drive is not detected at all; if i reinstall them it detects the dvd drive. i have a feeling it has something to do with there both attached on the same IDE (and ONLY IDE cable, my other hdd is via sata). Also during boot it lists the hdd and dvd drive with jmircon as 'title' with the "press any key to continue...." By the looks of things it appears to belive i am raiding the dvd drive and the hdd... i thought raid was joing hdds so it appears to be one big drive. any help would be greatly appreciated as this may solve the major headache i am having. the only idea i have is maybe when building i screwed up on the jumper settings and a setting in the bios or something - i really dont have a clue. Reply: (edit)Ok, forget the OS, what does the BIOS report? If you haven't got the hardware setup correct you should see the problem. Next, I would get UBCD (download and burn to disk and boot this system from it) to check all the hardware and inventory it to see if there is anything wrong with the matching of hardware to drivers. Good luck. J. j e r u v y a t y a h o o d o t c o m

Reply: (edit)thanks for the swift reply, i dont suppose you could direct me to any elements i am looking for in the bios? its been a while since ive poked around looking for problems in the bios so some direction would be greatly appreciated. after this again i dont suppose you could give me a semi check list on what to check with UBCD, again its been ages since ive used it. and get the feeling i will miss something from it otherwise. i guess you can tell im running out of coffee for tonight. thanks again J appreciate it. Reply: (edit)You want to make sure all your hardware is detected in the BIOS. With UBCD, all you want is an inventory listing parts to drivers. Then you go google for your manufacturers sites to make sure this is in accordance with the drivers. You should be looking for any obvious 'missing hardware detections' and lack of current drivers.
