Uninstall IE appearing in add/rem prog Window

August 15, 2009 at 09:32:58
Specs: Win XP SP2, na
I had a hard drive crash and just finished reinstalling XP. One of the first things I do is use the sysoc.inf edit to uninstall messenger, when I went add/remove windows components, I saw "Internet Explorer" listed as a component to uninstall if I wanted. I know I have never seen IE listed there before, and this was listed b4 I DL'ed any updates from MS. After downloading all (109 anyway) updates it is still listed. It hasn't updated to IE 7 or 8 yet, so this is an actual removal (or hiding) of IE, not just a roll back to previous version. I tried it and all links to IE were gone from the computer, I put it back because I wasn't sure what would happen when I installed weather-bug, WB uses the IE engine to run it windows. I was sure MS said IE couldn't be uninstalled years ago in the law suits. This just seems really weird. Anyone know whats going on?

Thanks,
Brad

IE can never be completly removed, because Microsoft makes IE an intigral part of Windows.
