I have a geforce2 gts with no fan and dont have any problems, sounds like its something else causing your problems. Whats your processor temp? you can check this in your bios. If its above 140 you'll start to have problems.

First, use the Transfer Wizard to move the files to a new machine, except put them into a folder you can later find on the drive. Then, reinstall WinXP. While the first blue screen tells you to press F6 to install third-party drivers, you press F7 instead. XP will install on a Standard PC rather than ACPI like you currently see in Device Manager|Computer. You can still use APM for power-saving features with Standard PC, it's just that the XP cannot tell the BIOS how to manage your hardware. I have seen new Gigabyte BIOSes that will not run well with ACPI enabled. Despite all my efforts, some manufacturers have not yet ported their code for XP.
