i somehow have this tray icon from ArcSoft, titled ArcSoft connect. i cant find any reference to it in the programs menu or add/ remove programs.
anyways after poking about it appears to be a legit thing from arcsoft; i tried installing one of there products and then removing to see if it removes it also even though it uses that connect thing?
any ideas how to get rid of the flaming thing?Chez

Go to Start > Run > type msconfig > OK. Scan the Startup tab entries for the ArcSoft entry and deselect it, if you find one. If it's there you can try and find the ArcSoft folder in c:\program Files. If you find it, look for an uninstall program. Or you could go to the ArcSoft web site and look for uninstall directions.
thanks,
unchecked from msconfig which will stop it starting at boot.
its not located in program files itself, it is under C:\Program Files\Common Files\ArcSoft however.
a search of all exe's contained within yielded none titled anything related to uninstall.i had a semi-good look on their website and couldn't find anything myself, did also search their forum but also got nowhere.
any further advice?

In MSCONFIG under the Command heading of Startup items it shows the path and name of the .exe that it is pointing at. If you have nothing installed that relies on arcsoft then I suggest you delete the arcsoft folder and all it's contents. If you aren't sure whether you need it or not then move the folder to another location so the startup pointer doesn't know where it is, or back up the contents to CD before deleting it from it's current location. Then restart your system. Watch for any adverse affects in the next week or so and if it turns out you do have some wanted program that needs the arcsoft stuff you can restore it. Arcsoft is photo software that is bundled with some cameras.
The funny thing is i haven't installed it knowingly.
ok ive backed up and deleted and also removed from startup (i dont believe i forgot something as simple as that).
now i take it to remove the entry in msconfig i just delete the entry identified in the location section? (HKLM...) - after, of course making a reg backup?further would it be appropriate to search for anything with arconnect / arcsoft in the reg and delete it?
Chez
After removing it just run a registry cleaner.
Disable the "ArcSoft Connect Daemon" service from the services..
