Comment:

I recently installed Windows XP on a clean Hard Drive, using NFTS format, being unaware that I wouldnt be able to Uninstal it if need be. Ive been through all the forum question and answers, but have been unable to get an answer to "How to uninstall XP from my hard drive and install 98 or ME".

Would Partioning Magic help my cause by converting my current NTFS to FAT32 which may enable me to format my hard drive.

Anyone help please??????

If the HD is in NTFS I don't think the W98 start up disk will work to format back to FAT32. Put the XP disk back in and format the disk to FAT32 with it. IT's worth a try.

Formating with the 98 startup disk means earasing everything!!!...including the partitions. So... it doesn't matter if u are running Fat, NTFS, linux partitions or some other kind or partitions, formating the hard disk will delete them!!

if all else fails you can boot from a win98 boot disk (supplied with your Win98 CD-rom) and use the program "fdisk" go through each partition one by one and delete it, check your progress by using the fourth option on the main menu "display partition info." Once all your partitions are deleted create a new partition. then reboot your machine with the boot disk still in. now type the command "format C:" (without quotes) once that is finished reboot your computer with the win98 CD-ROM disk and install as you normally would.

Download delpart.exe and copy it to a bootable floppy. Win98 or WinMe. Boot from the floppy. At the dos prompt type in delpart. Blow away the partition and save it, XP is gone. Repartition your dive and format and reinstall Windows 98 or Me.

If your Win98 or WinMe Cds are bootable (which are) boot from the CD and delete (!!!) the NTFS partition not format it, remove it! Then use the option istall windoze on the unpartitioned space and format using the FAT32 file system!!!

Problem solved, thanks for all your replies, the best solution that fitted my uninstal problem was "delpart" which worked just fine. I am now back to Windows Me, an operating system that I can modify to fit my situation, not like XP which is very good but a bit inflexable.

Thanks you all and especially jreich7.

John you had the same problem as be give 'DELPART' ago.

damn!
it doesn't work with DELPART because the DOS system can't read NTFS from windows XP!!!

there's nothing i can do about it.
do you have other ideas than DELPART or FDISK?

greetings to bill
