Right click your START button

Highlight and click EXPLORE

On toolbar, click TOOL, FOLDER OPTIONS, VIEW

Scroll and uncheck box which refers to hiding System files, and put a check in the box to show all hidden files.

Open My Computer
Go To TOOLS menu then FOLDER OPTIONS
Click on VIEW tab
in FILES & FOLDERS check "Display the contents of system file"
You may also want to check "Show hidden files and folders" too

You have to set your SEARCH options to SEARCH in all hidden and system files.

When you're in SEARCH, scroll to ADVANCED OPTIONS and make changes there to insure you're searching in all files and subfolders.

You can also find your boot.ini file in MSCONFIG (start, run, msconfig)
