I would like to know if I should clean the folder "Office setup files size 279,532K? which is listed in the disk cleanup folder along with the temp folder and cookie folder and all. The temps automatically have a check mark in their boxes but none in the Office setup files.

I would like to know why the Office setup files folder is inside the disk cleanup folder?

Why is it in there? Do I ever need to clean this folder up with the disk cleanup program?

Each time I have ddone a disk cleanup, I see most folders in there has the size of 1K or maybe 2K. But this Office setup files size is large compared to the others.

I'm just trying to understand my computer better.

Thanks

when office is installed, you have the option to remove these files or not. The only reason they are kept there, is to speed up the process of a repair install or security patches. If these files aren't there, you need your CDs to do a repair and sometimes for a secuirty update (especially a Service Pack).

If you have the CD's, and you need the extra space on your disk, it is safe to remove these files.

Description of the Disk Cleanup Tool in Windows XP

Another thing I notice that is taking up space is
EVENT VIEWER logs. Go into EV then right click
each catagory, then click "Clear all events".

Also check all the files in
C:\WINDOWS\Prefetch
The Prefetch folder is quite large.
I have deleted all files there, even
Layout.ini, at times without problems.
It will rebuild itself over time.
