I have a friends pc here & he says this problem just started outta nowhere. it is, when we try to boot his pc, Windows will try to boot, it gets as far as the splash screen then the screen turns blue, saying the following...
windows detected a problem & has shut down to prevent damage. under that it says,Unamountable_boot_volume., , what does this mean.? & under that it says to reboot in safe mode & try removing any new hardware or software but when we can't even get into safe mode, when ever I press F8, it says keyboard error. I've tried this with 3 different keyboards, so I know it's not the keyboard it self. Nothing I do will allow windows to boot. He says he's not installed anything new since we installed a new version of norton antivirus 2005 & that was a week ago. It was working fine until today.
any suggestions.??
would be greatly appreciated, thanks
Maxx

Install your friend's hard drive as a slave to an XP/2000 machine. When booting, it should run an automatic CHKDSK on the slave drive. Reinstall drive back to original machine....cross your fingers.
