Solved Unable to update XP on PC belonging to 7 years old daughter

Specs: Windows XP, 1GHz/960 MB of RAm
I am unable to install any updates on my windows xp like SP3 or IE8. It gives me a error. I decided to restore because something was preventing it from getting necessary updates for windows, hp or microsoft. I have tried everything I am familiar with so now I am asking for help.This pc belongs to my 7 year old daughter and she has excelled in school being able to use a computer.

Program Updates, Security Updates, Hotfixes, etc are released for a reason & if you go online with your computer, you should keep you system up to date for your own protection. SP3 & IE8 should have been installed several years ago.

The 1st thing you should do is install CCleaner-Slim. Run both the cleaner & the registry scanner & remove everything they find:

After doing that, reboot, then download SP3 & IE8 directly from Microsoft. Do NOT use Windows Update. Save copies in case you need them in the future.

After both of them have been installed, reboot the system, then try running Windows Update.
