Comment:

I was trying to remove virus & spyware by myself. However, the process got interrupted by the Symantec Virus scan. I got no other choice but to shut down the machine. The anti-virus doesn't work after rebooting. I'd like to remove the program and reinstall another anti-virus. However, the program still exist in Control Panel after I clicked "Remove".

Has anyone encounter the same problem?

Please help!

Thank you.

go to symantics site and use their uninstaller utillity. It should remove it.

If not download the utillity "unlocker" unlocker will free the application and allow its removal through the control panel add/remove application.

Then use Ccleaner's reg cleaner application to remove any remnents of the files and any other files that you have been removing.

If you are willing to take the chance...shut down "system restore" then go to trendmicro.com and navigate to the free virus scanner...run the scanner (must install an active X) and it will remove most of the issues from the malware/spyware/virus/trojan.

System restore must be shut down so the scanner can read the files.

wing55, seems removal is a sorta complicated procedure. Take a look in it's folder. Quite often there's an uninstaller (maybe called 'unwise'?). If it's there, run it. It knows where all the bodies are buried.
If not, take a look at the Norton's removal instructions @:

Thank you guys.

I've tried the "unlocker" and the proper Norton Removal Tool. But seems like I'm going in loops. The "unlocker" didn't actually uninstall the program for some reason, and the Removal Tool asks me to use "Add/Remove Program" to remove Symantec AntiVirus8 before proceeding, while I can't find Symantec AntiVirus8 in my Control Panel>Add/Remove Program.

Are they any other ways? Thank you.
