HI,
i have taken a response to a similar question i had from the archive ...but am not able to understand a few things..
1)im unable to locate ntldr ,ntdetect.com and boot.ini files
2) "add that line to boot.ini in floppy" as said below ...which line?
If anyone can understand..please help me out ...i need to install w2k on xp ..

thanks

Are you sure you want to do this. I just finished installing w2k on my XP machine. Now it's dual boot. I'm assuming that's what your shooting for. Here's how I did.
-Get a copy of PowerQuest Partition Magic 7.0
-Create a primary partition of at least 2.5GB
-Do a FULL format on a floppy disk
-Save ntldr ntdetect.com & boot.ini to floppy(you may have to unhide system files to see them in C:\)
-Put the floppy in, reboot and see if your computer boots to XP
-Put in your 2000 CD and reboot
-Choose boot from CD at startup
-Install 2000 on the partition you created
-check your new boot.ini file for the location of your 2000 OS under [operating systems]
-add that line to the boot.ini on your floppy
under [operating systems]
-boot your computer from the floppy (if you have more than one OS in boot.ini it automatically becomes dual boot)
-if it works, copy those files back to C:/

This may be easier to understand. Multibooting with Windows 2000 and Windows XP
