Just bought an OptoRite 52x32x52 drive, and after playing around with it, I found it was only able to write at 20x.
IDE controllers states that (after selecting DMA, confirming, and coming back into IDE controllers) DMA is not applicable. That normally means that there isnt a drive there right? Wrong! It cant be possible because when DMA is turned on the drive doesnt show in My Computer, but when PIO (4) is turned back on, its fine (but only runs at 20x, because I have a slow ass CPU)I tried looking in my Bios but it doesnt have any selection to enable UDMA. So couldnt find anything there. The drive is capable of operating UDMA33.
My chipset is SiS, and i have updated the IDe controller drivers, but it still did nothing.I need a bit of help now, because pretty soon, Im gonna smash this drive into lots of pieces and feed them to bum whole sold me it.
I really dont think it is a faulty drive, and its REALLY frustrating that I cant solve it.. So I give the problem to you guys.
I appreciate your help.

Chris,
This site gives instructions for enabling DMA.http://www.optorite.com/manual/English/manual/dma.htm
Hope this helps
