Subject: Unable to switch identity in OE6OS: XPproCPU/Ram: P111.733 256mb |
Comment: After installing XP SP1 i am unable to switch identity in outlook express6. I ran the IE6 SP1 update a week ago without ill affect but XP SP1 seems to have scrambled something. I cannot create/switch to any new identity in OE. I also note that I cannot now switch MSN Messenger off while OE is running. Prior to SP1 I had configured Messenger to start with OE but could close it independantly. Now I get an error message saying other programs reliant on messenger are running and I have to close OE first then manually close messenger. Annoying but not a major problem. I do need help with the identity issue please.

Reply: (edit)This is a known problem in outlook express and SP1 I dont know the work around but it is fairly simple .Something about unchecking a box like use this idendity. Others here can tell you the specifics or you can wait for MS to put out a fix

Reply: (edit)Thanks for that Ron. It's the box that says "Use this identity when starting a program" in the Manage Identities menu. It did the trick. I have to manually choose an identity every time I start OE now but at least I can switch to check the other mailbox. It seems that OE thinks it is "Starting" when only switching.
