When I attempt to run Msconfig from Start-Run the hourglass flicks but nothing happens. I've read some messages which refered to reinstalling msconfig from the CD - I've done that but it still refuses to run. I have a copy of windows Me on my PC and that version does run but gives two error messages on firing up. It does work, however and I am able to edit the statup list. I've even stopped everything that I consider a potential problem from running but that has not helped. Anyone with any ideas would be most welcome.

The MSCONFIG app may be corrupt, go to the following for instructions to extract new copy of MSCONFIG :

Yep - tried that - no joy.
Tried another copy that Alan Dunne sent me -thanks Alan - still no joy.
I've checked for the W32.Klez virus - not found.
I've used Windows Me's version of msconfig and stopped everything loading - no change.
I've done a sfc /scannow to check all system files are pukka - and it still refuses to run.
I've even been looking at rights for running programs and I seem to have all those.
It's as though it tries to run but it gives me the impression that I'm not allowed to. Just off back to trawl through t'internet to see what I can find about restricting run rights for programs.

Try downloading the one here:

It will even run right from the desktop if you want.

After you start MSCONFIG, if you open Task Manager, does it list MSCONFIG as a running program or procress? Just curious ...

No - Task Manager does not list it as a program or process
