What service pack do you have installed?

What is on the DVDs that you can't read?

Is this a new problem?

Have you recently installed any scanners or disk burning programs?

Why are you still running SP2? You should be running SP3 with all updates.

WinXP comes on CDs, not DVDs. Are you restoring from an image or backup?

How are the files getting on a DVDR?

And you're absolutely sure the optical drives you've tried are DVD readers and not just cdroms?

What are their model numbers?

Have you verified the DVD disks are good by trying them in another computer?
