Unable to Read CD after DVD

I have a weird problem.
After inserting a DVD movie into my desktop (any movie, home made, store, you name it) the computer would no longer read CDs. I insert a blank cd and space available and capacity is 0 bytes. Nero doesn't even detect a disc in drive (have tried many discs). This is a constant occurrence (insert a DVD loose CD reading ability)
Machine is an HP D530 slim desktop, p4 2.8 ghz, 512mbram. Running Windows xp sp2. Only burning package is Nero 7. And has Windows Media Player 11.

First...make sure the box 'Always Use' is not checked in the open with box that pops up. Second...go online... (http://kb.roxio.com/search.aspx?URL=/content/kb/General%20Information/000070GN&PARAMS=) It's small and easy to use. I had the problem with my cd drive not being recognized and when going to properties for inserted cd..it would say 0 capacity 0 free. I ran the program and nero and sonic both recognized my cd drive again.
