I cannot open files or download programs on my pc. Each time I get the message: File does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Folders Option Control Panel. How do I create associations and how do I get my PC back to normal capacity? I cannot even open Add/Remove programs?

Here's what I do. I rightclick on the desktop and choose new text file. A file called New Text Document.txt is created by default.

Now if I don't have an extension for let's say a windows avi to be opened by media player I change the name of New Text Document.txt to new.avi.

Then I rightclick on the "new.avi" file and choose the option "Open With" --> "Choose Program".

Then I pick the program from the list "Windows Media Player" and choose "always use the selected program to open this kind of file"

Works well for me.

hth,

Ropey

Thanks for the response and Information, but can you please tell me how to change the name of the new text document and how do I create association folders to match files such as add/remove programs?
