In "My Computer" when I click on my C (main) hard drive, an error window appears:
windows cannot find ‘resycled\.boot.com’
The spelling of recycled is not a typo on my part; that’s how it’s spelled on the error window. I ran StopZilla spyware remover and that removed the 'resycled' file (I’m assuming) because now it’s looking for it when I try and access my C-drive.
By the way, the D-drive (Backup) is acting the same way.
How do I get my C drive in My Computer back to normal functioning, so I can access it by clicking on it?
Ughhhh.

I dunno StopZilla but in w2k, which is more like XP than anything I know of, The recycled directory is the 'recycle bin'.
C:\temp\-\x-sim\ft>dir /ah \r*
Volume in drive C is 2G-PRI
Volume Serial Number is 211A-0ADADirectory of C:\
10-03-08 03:49 <DIR> Recycled
========================================
If it got removed, that's suspicious.More suspect is the hunt for .boot.com because boot.com is not a standard part of NT; nevermind .boot.com so I would try to undo whatever StopZilla did.
Then do an online scan with Panda or whatever.

dale1chair, Check out the links/threads at the search link below. Your problem appears to be virus/malware related.

Hi O H,
All the best for 2009

Malwarebytes didn’t work.
After clicking on a previous date and hoping it restores to an earlier point, a minute passes by and then it states that
“Your computer cannot be restored to (such and such date)
No changes have been made.”Ughh!
For whatever reason, it won’t allow me to restore to an earlier point.I’m ready to try and find the autorun.inf file, but where do I look for it?
I found one dated from 2003 in the Microsoft directory, but I’m sure that’s not what I’m looking for.

Okay, I seem to have ridden the PC of the virus/spyware, but now when I click on the
C-icon (local disk)in My Computer I get the error:The file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the folder options control panel.

Dale, Try the "Drive Association Fix" at the link below.

Thanks a lot, Tufenuf; that did the trick;
I deleted boot.com and resycled in regedit before applying the new file association to get my C-drive responding as it should.
Thanks-
Dale
