Comment: I am unable to load Win XP. I am using the following hardware: asus a7v333-ru via kt333, 266mhz 266 fsb-oem amd athlon xp 2200+ 1.8GHz Thoroughbred Kingston (2) 512mb pc2100 ddr,sdram sound blaster audigy with ieee1394 80gb seagate barracuda 4, 7200rpm gainward geforce 3 ti200 64mb plextor plexwriter 40x10x40 cd-rw pioneer 16x dvd Model 106s/2 dlink 10/100mb pci ethernet nic-530tx I tried loading xp with only video card installed, with and without partitioning, seagate's long test on 80gb hard drive- test ran good, changed out ribbon cables. After trying many things, received the following message: Windows XP Home Edition Setup Setup cannot format the partition. The purchased the Windows XP CD-ROM from Direct.Multiwave.com. Please help.

Reply: (edit)Format with a win98 bootdisk and then in dos run winnt.exe in the i386 folder. BTW you do not need an os installed to install Xp, even with an upgrade cd.
