I encountered a problem in downloading the chat applet when joining the Yahoo Chat Room. The downloading process always halted with the following message:-
“Unable to load applet. You need to download an updated version of the Microsoft VM from http://www.microsoft.com/java.” You know this is an impossible task. The MSJVM is no longer available for downloading from M$ website. I have downloaded JAVA 2 Platform Standard Edition Version 1.5.0 (build 1.5.0_01-b08) from www.java.com. The problem persists. I have enabled the downloading and running of java applets in the security settings. All these do not work. Hope that some one can give me advice to solve this problem. Thank you.

I had problems as well with getting java to work. That 1.5 build you got just doesnt work for some unknown reason.
If the above answer doesnt solve your problem go to http://public.planetmirror.com/pub/java-sun/JRE-1.4.1_01/win32/

Get the 9.5m.I have installed it on two machines and both worked straight away without touching any settings.

Good luck

As advised by keltik, I have downloaded VM build 3810 and the JAVA applet problem has been solved. Is there any security patch for VM 3810? I can find none by running Windows Update.

Thanks to keltik and clover for their advice.

norneti, The Microsoft Virtual Machine build 3810 is the latest patched version and it's doubtfull that Microsoft will issue any more patches.
