Comment: I am unable to install Windows XP Pro on a system using Mercury board with Intel i810e2 chipset. Installation goes half way and then throws either an IRQ CONFLICT error or a PAGE_FAULT on win32k.sys(?!). The error screen says to disable BIOS caching and display shadowing. The BIOS has a 'display window' setting of 32/64 MB which cannot be disabled. I have tried almost all combinations on BIOS and it does not solve the problem. I have Win 98 on C drive and Linux on F drive. Am trying to install XP on the D drive. Can anyone please advice me on what to do?!!

Reply: (edit)You probably need to flash update the BIOS chip, or replace it. Visit the web site for your motherboard and download a update file for your model number motherboard, and the flash utility program. Write down the flash BIOS directions carefully. The 2 files will go on a blank floppy disk. You put in a bootable floppy disk, such as your Win 98 boot disk, and then run the flash utility program. Flashing the BIOS is tricky, so learn all you can, or get a pro repair person to help you. Depending on how old your motherboard is, it may be better to get a newer one. Installing Win XP without the sound card, modem, unneeded devices, first, may help with IRQ conflicts. After XP is installed, add the other devices later.
