We are trying to upgrade a scanner (from a Fujitsu 4xxx series to a 5750c). When I try to install the new scanner driver, an error pops up that says "Please remove 'scanner utility for microsoft windows.'"
Well, when we try to remove it in the Add/Remove Programs feature, it pops up with another error -- "An installation support file could not be found" -- and quits the uninstall.
We have tried to remove every single trace of Fujitsu files and TWAIN drivers, from the hard drive and registry, but every time we restart something keeps writing these files back and making it impossible to install the new scanner.
Thanks for any help.

Go here and D/L devmgr.bat. run it and select show hidden devices in device manager. Delete all references to the scanner.

Just a guess, but maybe to uninstall you may need the original installation CD in its drive.
Or maybe look in the Start>All Programs for an Uninstall Icon for the Utility, and click that for a try.
Watch for help from others.

For the record, the computer was running a volume shadow copy on every boot, which was copying all the drivers and such onto the hard drive. Even disabling this wouldn't let us uninstall the utility scanner. We basically threw in the towel and had to re-image the entire machine.
Thanks for the suggestions though!
