I'm running Windows XP SP2 currently, and a few days ago I had to reformat and reinstall Windows, and now I am unable to download anything from the Microsoft website using either IE7 or Firefox 3. I can navigate the site, but when I attempt to initiate a download it goes to 'page cannot be displayed.' I can download files from every other site that I've visited. Any ideas?

In order to download things from Microsoft you must use the IE program or an add-on for the firefox browser that immulates the IE application.
You must also have the WGA application installed to download from Microsoft along with active scripting...reset your security settings to the default levels in IE7 and then see if you can download

I'm pretty sure I have the WGA program because when I installed WMP 11 it went through that process. Reset security settings and still nothing, getting 'page cannot be displayed.'

had a similiar issue recently with a laptop. It had malware that could not be removed and had to be wiped and reinstalled.

It took two days with Microsoft support, but we finally got it fixed. I had the same problem as Wanderer, malware was blocking access to the Microsoft server. I'm assuming that that was the same problem that was causing my Symantec to crash when I would install it. They had me download and run this program called ComboFix, which is an awesome program when you're in this sort of situation. It scanned, detected, and removed the malware I had on my computer, and fixed the problem.
