I was able to connect to another PC normally in a workgroup. However, after a failure in updating to XP service pack 2, I am able to see the other pcs, but unable to connect to them. I am able to ping though. I updated agin with XP SP2, update was completed. But the same problem still occur. What would be the reason? Please advice. By the way I'm using XP Pro.

How are you trying to connect? A mapped drive, or just through My Network Places? Are you trying to connect to a share that has been created? Are you getting any errors? Perhaps a little more detail would help.

So sorry for the late reply.
The first time the error occurred when I used My network places to connect to the other PC. Before the updating, I was able to so. After this error came, I tried using Mapped drive. It worked fine. After some time, I wasn't able to open Mircosoft Office Files, like Word or Excel, from the mapped drive. Other files were ok though. Yes, I'm connecting to the share that was created long time ago. The error msg is something like I don't have the permission to connect to that particular shared folder.

Regarding the Microsoft Office files error, could it be due to the fact that the shared folder only has "read-only" permission? As files like word or excel, tends to create a tmp file when opened.

I'm connecting using cables though, not wireless.

Thanks fo replying.

Firstly, make sure the permissions on the target (mapped) machine are correct. File AND Share permissions...

The permissions are correct. No permissions have been changed and then it failed to work. Any other reasons? Thanks for help.
