i am running xp pro and also using partition magic 7.0. i use ntfs and i made some free space for running linux at the end of my hard drive. i don't need this space anymore. partition magic find some problems resizing my partition (error 1555). anyway disk chceck shows a message "windows was unable to complete the disk check" and i have no idea how to recover a unallocated disk space without making any additional partition. thanks for you help.

if you have partition magic why not create another partition out of the remaining space and then just merge them together ?

Read through Partition Magic's help files and you'll see the advantage to having multiple partitions. It's a great way to keep data safe if XP crashes seriously and needs to be completely reinstalled.
