This is just one of those days. Today I try to turn on my computer, the yellow power light is on, the red light (working) is on, and the fan is on, but no boot up. Nothing happens. I tried F8 to go into safe mode, nothing happens. I am using my wife's computer now. I did not do anything to it yesterday and I can't get it to boot. Any suggestions? thanks everyone.

There are lot of reasons can cause this such as a boot sector virus, Hard disk problem, OS curruption etc. Try below

1. Go to BIOS of your PC and try to detect the hard drive. Theyn try to boot.

2. Try to boot your PC with XP setup CD and see whether it can access Hard drive.

Based on your two issues here (your computer and your son's), it would make sense to ask whether you have had any major storms or power outages/surges in your area recently. Both of the issues described can be easily attributed to such things...

Relating to this particular issue, a technician would follow the steps that I tried to explain in the previous post regarding your son's computer- removing components and resetting the MB. Then adding each piece of hardware one at a time until the trouble maker is clearly isolated.

I would recommend doing a search online for detailed direction on how to do this because it is usually done by computer people who know the inside pretty well...

Good luck,
Larry
