got a used harddrive off of ebay with preinstalled windows xp put in computer. computer reads ultra66 not installed need help

christopher wheeler, possible 'ultra66 bios' is some sort of proprietary proggie? Never heard of it. Think I'd run a worm/trojan scan just in case. May not help, but can't hurt.

Is this a PATA/IDE HDD you're asking about? Does your motherboard support ATA66? Are you using an ATA66 ribbon cable?

You can't run a preinstalled version of xp on your computer.
Not only is it illegal but it was installed in a different system so it has different drivers, dll's, registry entries, etc. not to mention seen differently by the drive hardware which usually results in it not booting [different drive geometry]
The message "ultra66 (bios) not installed " is normal if there is no ultra66 drive connected to the ultra 66 interface. This is a hardware message not a windows message.
