I would add:

1. Spybot Search and Destroy
2. Zone Alarm
3. Msconfig.exe (taken from a Windows 98 or Windows XP system) It is not included in Windows 2000, yet versions from 98 and XP work fine with Windows 2000.
4. DOS bootdisk images

Essential:
Spybot Search & Destory
AIDA32--system/hardware info
Mozilla or Firebird/Thunderbird--the best web browser and email client!
Registry backup and cleaning tools....
Firewall like ZoneAlarm...
Maybe the Blaster Patch and Removal tool?

Recommended:
Scanner--shows hard drive usage
Startup CPL--similar to Startup editor?
Real & QuickTime Alternative--play realPlayer and QuickTime files
SuperScan--if you need to troublshoot home networks
FinePrint--EXCELLENT shareware... can help printer troubleshooting
StarDownloader--download manager/accelerator
PowerArchiver--like WinZip but can also extract RAR archives

Others:
Visual Basic 5 and 6 runtimes, perhaps?
OpenOffice--reads and writes Microsoft Office files!
Knoppix--Bootable Linux CD; bring life to machines with dead or missing hard drives
Daemon Tools and DDump--Lets you copy data CDs and run them directly from your hard drive. (I install MS Office this way so that I don't have to fetch my CD every time it I need to install an additional feature or install an Office security patch)

You could also go to the Windows Update site and turn on the option for the Catalog. Then you can download ALL of the updates and patches for the various windows OSs.

I would add the following:
Roxio GoBack (better than windows restore coz it backs up the entire system, including programs etc)
Webroot Spy Sweeper
MaxMEM
HoverSnap
Registry Mechanic
Webroot Window Washer
