Well, My grandpa had a computer with windows 2000, and I was going to erase everything in the harddrive and then install windows Xp, but my brother went ahead and installed with windows 2000 still on it and now I have two versions of windows on the computer. I tried to reformate the Hard Drive with the windows xp disk but its not giving me that option, so I wanted to ask how I would get rid of the other version of windows, if I cant how can I reformate my hard drive with out the Xp disk??

How many partitions are there on your computer? Are the both systems installed on the same partition or on the different ones?
What means the XP disk doesn't give you formatting option?

Theyre on the same partition, and when I installed Xp on another computer it gave me the option to formate my hard drive before installing it.

in order to do that you must perform a "clean install". reboot your computer and enter the bios (set-up) by what ever keyboard key your system is using. Most use "Del" key. some use F1 or F2...enter the bios and change the boot order. You want the 1st boot device to be the CD rom drive. press F10 and save and exit with the xp installation disc in the drive. The system will restart and all you need to do is follow the prompts on the first time around. it will come to a point where it asks what partition that you want to install on and read carefully to remove all the different partitions and the repartition the drive. It will then format the drive and install the operating system.
What you have apparently done was installed xp within the windows 2000 program.

anyway, to format easily you may go to the HD manufacturer's site and get their utility disk. It will be bootable and include format options. Not sure if it will have an NTFS option but you can always format to FAT first.

Well no luck on the utility disk. And when I put the Xp disk in it doesnt do anything when I press F10. I don't know whats up with it. And on top of things since windows 2000 has my virus protection program on it I cant install it on Xp for the mean time and when I got to uninstall it from 2000 the option use to get rid of it doesnt exist. And when I try to erase from the Hard drive it wont let me. Man this computers getting annoying. Pls help.
