Two menus, one right click XP

April 3, 2009 at 16:55:57
Specs: Windows XP
I have an issue similar to this post, but it was never answered:

http://www.computing.net/answers/windows-xp/multiple-right-click-menus-in-xp/171053.html

So, very often, when I right click on an icon in my notification area, I will get the right click menu for both them item and the task bar. It's pretty annoying, and it' happening on both my Laptop (HP Pavilion dv5130us) and my built desktop. The laptop is running XP Media Center Edition SP2 and the desktop is running XP Home SP3.

Here's a screenshot of the issue in action

I would really like some help if you can! If you need any more info please let me know...

Do you have one those special mouse with five buttons three on top including the wheel and then one on each side cause with those when you right click sometimes you can hit the side button at the same time and cause strange things to happen while clicking. My brother had one those but got rid of it cause it was a real pain..

I do have one of those mice, but I am definitely sure that I am not pressing multiple buttons when I right click.

A mouse problem is the only thing that makes sense, Oranjeguice. I have to believe that Obsolete has made the correct diagnosis.

I have been practicing the right click last night and this morning.
I have come to the conclution that two menus come up for me, if the mouse pointer is moved during the click. In fact, if I hold down the right button, then move mouse pointer, I get two menus.

Aegis: a mouse problem is absolutely not the only thing that makes sense--it could be several different things. I am *completely certain* that I am not pressing more than the right mouse button while clicking in the notification area. I appreciate obsolete's response but it was not a correct diagnosis.

Chuck, thank you for your reply. I tried holding down the right click on an icon, moving from the notification area to the desktop, then letting go. Two menus did in fact come up. However, I've been trying to move my mouse around while right-clicking and I've gotten no results. I'm at least glad to see that someone else has experienced/is experiencing the issue. Does it ever become bothersome for you?

Also, not that it may matter, but I'm using a plug-in for Mozilla Thunderbird that allows me to minimize it to my notification area (link here) Does anyone else use this & experience this issue?

Ditto on the dragged right click on xp home, but only if I drag it onto a window or the desktop, it doesn't work if I drag to the taskbar. I am however using different programs

I have the same problem. And while I am also using one of those fancy 6 button mice, it was also happening when I was using my old scroll wheel mouse, before I updated a few months ago. It is kinda bothersome, but I guess I've learned to live with it.
