Hi
In Windows 98 I could automatically turn off my computer with this command:
rundll32.exe user,exitWindows
I could create a shortcut for this command and a Hot Key for the shortcut.
That's to say, I could close Windows in practically NO TIME AT ALL!
I miss this funcion in WIndows XP!!
Is there any other way to accomplish this in Win XP??
Thanks

Try this:-
Create a shortcut to
\windows\system32\shutdown -s -t 1
-s shutdown
-t 1 wait 1 second (no -t option wait 20 sec)Right click desktop/new/shortcut follow instructions.
You can then right click the short cut, into properties and create a hot key sequemnce.
The only thing is on my system this shuts down fine, but leaves the system at the 'It is now safe to turn off your computer screen' whereas if I run shutdown through the start menu, it actually powers off.
Maybe this is a problem with the shutdown program in my RC1 which is ok in later versions.
Or maybe theres a switch I dont know about to power off.
Anybody know ?Rgds
Paul

This post has been several times on this forum now... Before you post a question, first look if it's not present already....

Does it really matter ?
I learned something by him posting the question, a positive result.
It lead to the further question of differences in power handling by the shutdown command and the built in version, which I may have missed or was not present in previous posts.
New people constantly join the forum, so sometimes its going to be useful to revisit a previous topic and get some fresh/updated ideas.

Of course, all you have to do is hit your power button and XP shuts down and turns off all on its own ..doesn't get easier than that.
