I've recently upgraded my motherboard, CPU and graphics card, which has been causing some annoying problems with Windows. At first it wouldn't start up at all, and I had to do a repair install. Just once I thought I'd ironed out all the little software problems that occurred as a result, I'm now getting explorer crashing every time I click "Turn off computer" in the start menu. I just get an hourglass pointer that doesn't change or do anything other than move, and I end up having to use the task manager to shut down or restart explorer manually. As far as I can tell, there are no processes running that shouldn't be. Does anyone know what could be causing this problem, and how I can get around it? Thanks.

imek, not sure just what's causing it, but may be able to offer you a workaround?? FWIW, I use a stand alone shutdown proggie (for convenience) called 'Slawdog'. Works good. If you want it, get it free @: http://www.slawdog.com/products/smartsd/ HTH. Ed in Texas.

Thanks, though I'd rather kill the problem at the source if I can. It turns out that everything works fine just after the computer's started up, and Turn Off Computer doesn't start crashing until after I do a certain thing - it stopped working after I installed Slawdog, but the cause doesn't seem to be actual processes because I tried closing absolutely every non-essential process and it still crashed. Also, I've restarted again and it no longer crashes (yet), though the new program is still running in the background.
