I currently own a zd8230us. Here are some specs:

Windows XP Media Center Edition
P4 650 (3.4GHZ)
1gig RAM
100 gig hard drive
ATI X600 128MB

I've been having a lot of trouble with the DVD/CD combo drive as of late. There seems to be a problem reading and burning DVDs, but CDs are fine. For example, I put a DVD movie into the drive and under Windows Explorer, it will say the name of the movie. However, when I attempt to play the DVD with any piece of software, the movie never starts and the program hangs. Also, DVDs such as the HP Operating System DVD aren't even recognized.

I uninstalled the device from device manager and installed XP_CD-DVD-Fix.zip from http://www.dougknox.com/xp/scripts_desc/xp_cd_dvd_fix.htm. The last thing I attempted was to reinstall Windows, but my machine isn't recongnizing the Operating System DVD as a boot disk. I just see a blinking cursor on a black screen for several seconds. I checked the boot order and the DVD should be booting first. There was a time when I could use DVDs normally, which leads me to believe this is a software problem, but I don't know how long my system has been acting this way.

Thank you for any help that you can provide!

You might try going to the manufacturers website, and look for firmware updates.

I recently had a similar problem with my CD-RW drive where it would only recognize certain kinds of disks. I had no luck, and ended up having to buy a new drive.

I've got an LG DVD burner that stopped recognising DVD's altogether, but had no problem with CD's. I tried a firmware update, re-installing Windows, and even tried the burner in another machine (same problem). I found no solution to the problem and that burner now sits on the shelf. I'm inclined to think that shoddy workmanship (or poor quality control) was the cause of the problem.

The worst thing was that the burner was still under warranty, but I'd lost my receipt, so no refund/replacement for me.

Please let us know if you found someone's advice to be helpful.

I have a HP Pavilion ZD8000 and I also have a problem with my TS-L532M burner.Everything was ok until about a month ago, since then any DVD+R that I burn ends up beeing seen by windows as an empty disk(by nero7 too), although nero says burning completed succesfully. CD-R/RWs work just fine, and the odd thing is, DVD-RWs work fine too.Does anybody have any idea what the problem might be???
