Comment:

im trying to reinstall windows and I get an error that says Setup cannot continue because the version of Windows on your computer is newer than the version on the CD.

Warning: If you decide to delete the newer version of Windows that is currently installed on your computer, the files and settings cannot be recovered

and then if i look at the details is says To install the version on the CD, restart your computer, boot from this CD, and follow the instructions for a new installation.

i just dont know how to "boot from this disk". how do i do that?

You have to go into your BIOS. It usually gived you the method on bootup. Look for a line that says, to enter setup press Delete key or something to that effect. When you get into the BIOS, look for a line that says Boot Order, and change the boot order to boot from CD first. Put your XP cd in the tray and watch the screen for when it says Boot from CD. Press Enter when you see that dialog. Then you can do the setup. Good Luck.

The question that comes to mind is why are you trying to reinstall Windows? You appear to have the updates and service packs applied to your current intallation.
