trying to install windows px pro

need help trying to install windows xp pro over windows me i have the cd and the 6 bootdisk but when i get to the screen it ask to insert the cd label windows xp pro in the cdrom and i do but it does not do anything else it stops so now im thinking it is not reading the crrom drive what do i need to do my cd drive is a philips cdrw 1200 series do i need to update the drivers for winxp pro???please help....thanks

If you ran the XP compatibility program from Microsoft and the cd did not come up then it's not your CD Drive.
One thing to check in your BIOS is try making your CD-ROM the first boot device.
I always found it's best to do a clean install of XP Pro, you can backup the files you want to keep and reload all the programs later. If your ME was unstable and constantly crashing more than likely XP will be screwed also.
