I am having a serious problem that causes my PC to halt on a blue screen error. It used to reboot until I turned off auto restart. I am seeing "true vector service" errors in the Application Event Viewer. When I click properties, I get:
"The description for Event ID ( 1 ) in Source ( True Vector Service ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: .

0020: 20 31 32 39 32 00 1292.I found similar issues previously reported, but I can't find Zone Alarm on my system. I see vsmon running, which I guess could mean "vector service monitor."
I installed XP on a new system and copied some programs and files from my old Win 98 system, but I don't remember ever installing Zone Alarm on that system either. I downloaded the free version of Zone Alarm to see if it would fix my problem. It didn't, and I can't find a correct way to uninstall it. There are various folders and files related to Zone Alarm, ZoneLabs, vsmon, and other vs... stuff. How do I get rid of this? I am using a Linksys Router with its own firewall, so I don't think I need Zone Alarm.I can send you some minidumps in a separate email if you need them. Thanks.

If you want to completely remove Zone Alarm from your system use have to search for all files and folders for the components of it, this must included all hidden files and folders. Further you must search the registry to find references to the same. You can use the "Find" feature from the tool bar. However, I too use the LinkSys router and yes it has a built in firewall, but it is minimal. It does make your system stealth but does nothing to stop activity you may not want, which is why it works with little set up. Check out the folowing url, scroll down and try the Sheilds Up and Leak test. http://grc.com/default.htm
I use Zone Alarm (free) also, which is some what of an eye opener to see just how many "Window's" applications try to contact the internet without your knowledge. I have disabled all the auto updates and contacting in my programs yet they still attempt to send info over the internet. Windows Media Player is a prime example.

I looked at the crash dumps from this system. It is running an old version of Adobe Type Manager Deluxe. The product includes a driver, ATMhelpr.sys dated April 15 1997, that is not compatible with Windows 2000 or Windows XP. You can find an updated version on Adobe's site at ATM Deluxe updater. By the way, this is one of many crashes that are automatically recognized if you accept WinXP's offer to submit the crash report to Microsoft.
This system is also running the Zone Alarm driver, vsdatant.sys dated April 11, 2001. You should either uninstall Zone Alarm or upgrade to the newer version.

ZA is a pain to un-install.If you are going to up-grade ZA or go to another firewall, completely un-install it.If you have a registry cleaning program and know what you are doing, clean the ZA stuff out of your registry also.I went thru this a while back.Same thing.Errors in Application Event viewer listing True Vector.I won't go into detail, but this caused me a great deal of problems on my xp home o.s.That's one big reason why ZA is no longer the firewall that I use.ZA is a good firewall,as long as you don't have to un-install it.Hope this helps.JB

Thanks for the advice. I will start cleaning things up and will update ZA and Type Manager (or just get rid of it). I purchased Pest Patrol a recently to keep things under control.
