Does anyone have any suggestions or references how to trouble shoot a blue screening computer without opening a $160.00 call to Microsoft?

I can offer you no suggestion or reference without first knowing the error message code that you see on the PC. Each BSOD display the error code with a narrative description. Sorry.

I was looking more for future refenc. My computer that was bluescreening I ended up reforamted and re-installing XP I feel this problem was due to Aventil software that was on the computer and that this will eventually happen again.

As expected, the PC I rebuilt has blue screened again. I believe it has something to do with the Aventil software that was loaded to connect to a corp network. The error message is: 0x000000D1 0x00000002 0x00000000 0x00040008
It says
Driver_IRQL_NOT_LESS_EQUAL
I did a google search on that error text and read on some sites that this error could be casued by a variety of reasons.
One was bab RAM. I ran the memory checker from MEMTEST.ORG, found no problems.
