In the past month, I have had lots of trouble getting a connection (dial up) and also have been getting disconnected frequently. It often takes a very long time to connect and has to try repeatedly. Then it will disconnect for no apparent reason.
Thanks,
Cocco

Hello Cocco,
Dial-up connections and all the issues are of basically 2 subjects....The ISP has busy servers and causes rejected log-on or extended times to log in. Which they refuse to explain to their customers.
The other issue is the actuall equipment of the phone company. In rural areas the switching may still be done by relays that snap, crackle and pop and the older the line the more noise is produced in transmitions. This noise will cause a lot of disconnections as it interferes with the pings and packets that are sent back and forth while you are logged on.You may experience even more on stormy or wet days within your area....
Also I would like to point out that even in urban area that have been retrofitted or upgraded there can still be noise picked up from within the lines...The Phone company refuse to tell you this stuff also and they will not replace the lines. Besides that they had rather you upgraded to DSL.
Anyway that is the jist of 99% of troubles with dial-up connections. The other 1% is basically a failing phone modem.
