Greetings, I want to ask if anyone could help me tackle this problem: XP wouldn't boot up yesterday on my 30.0 gig hard drive and said it was missing an essential system file,
/windows/system32/config/system. I tried repairing, to no avail. So I whipped out a new 80 gig and installed XP on that and put the 30 gig as a slave. I booted up with the XP on the 80 gig with no problem, and the old 30 gig with the messed up XP showed up on "My Computer". Problem is..once I tried to get into the username files of the old installation, windows gave me a message that said, "Access Denied." I think this is because I had passwords to my username in the XP installation on my 30 gig. Could anyone tell me how to access those files?? I have email, college stuff on there. Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

You'll need to go to the advanced security properties of your slave drive and take ownership of the root folder. After doing so you should be able to access all folders/files.
