TrojanHorse Downloader.generic10.IDC. att emails blocked

Specs: Windows XP
Recently, all my e-mails to my US correspondents with ISP, started to be blocked and labelled as "non deliverable for abuse". My PC appears to be infected with "Trojan Horse Downloader/Generic10.IDC" infecting file "Windows/System32/userinit.exe". My AVG Antivirus software says it cannot remove it automatically and that it has to be removed "manually". As a rather inexperienced computer user, I am at a loss what to do without endangering my system or my data files. HELP!

Try running your AV program while in Windows Safe Mode.

Try other malware programs. Some to mention are: Malwarebytes, Spybot search & destroy, SuperAntiSpyware.

A Google search for Generic10.IDC produced many hits. I can't recommend any of the found programs or manual procedures because I have no personal knowledge of them.

I recommend you let some program cleanse your system. Removing registry entries is not for the faint of heart.

A system restore to an earlier time may work. No matter how you purge the trojan you should reset system restore to remove recent restore points or you will be re-infected.
