Comment:

I have a Trojan virus on my system but for some reason it can't be removed into a quarantine area kind of thing (I'm running AVG Antivirus) and I can't even delete the actual file or the folder that the file is contained in.

C:\Program Files\Comet Systems\DM\BIN\DMSERVER.EXE Trojan horse Downloader.Comet.C

that is where the virus is located if it helps. So how do I go about getting rid of this?

any suggestions?

simple, start in safe mode and delete the file manually

or

go to run, type 'msconfig', go to startup and uncheck the file. next time u start comp the trojan wont be started

yr virus scanner shud then be able to delete it

the reason it cant be deleted is because the file is in use

or, if u have the option, scan the infected drive as a secondary to a master, an use the virus scanner to remove it. thats the best option you wont run into n e problems then

I tried click on Run then typing in msconfig and unclicking the program, and then when it restarted, a window came up telling me that changes were made and that they can be undone by clicking on the Normal startup mode, because it changed to Selective Startup when I unchecked the program with the trojan. However, my problem is now that I cannot shut down my computer by going to Start> shutdown, or restart either.

I tried reversing what I did, by putting it back to normal startup, but that still does not fix the problem of not shutting down nor restarting. Now I got two problems...

How do I fix the not shutting down problem now?

By the way, I already tried using System Restore and it says that each restore is unsuccessful for some reason. That's never happened to me before. I'm thinking it's because I unchecked that program under msconfig, BUT I checked it back again, and put it into normal startup, and it's still happening that I can't restart nor shutdown from the Start menu.

I had a problem with one, and I'm still having one with another. First, restart your computer in safe mode. To do that, keep switching hitting the alt or ctrl key, I'm not sure which one does it. It might not work the first time, it's taken me like 10-15 sometimes. Then choose safe mode, and run your antivirus software and it should pick it up, or you should be able to delete it manually.

try the task manager (ctrl, alt, del) and the processes tab, highlight the name (if its there) and "End Process". Might be able to delete it if its not running.
