My mouse goes crazy clicking all over the place, I use to think just randomly but it always manages to click the start menu and go to the display settings. Now I got a firewall tried them all tiny,za,sygate and no results. I been told that this may happen cause of mIRC. Are there any ways of finding out whats or who is causing these mouse glitches? I run xp pro

I hear it COULD be a virus. First thing to do is check your virus definitions are up to date. Second thing to try is to use the mouse on another PC. This will tell you if its a hardware or software problem. If it is ok on another machine then you need to go back to your machine and start to check drivers etc. Then check MS Website updates for XP. Then uninstall the device.....re-install, let windows detect it...use the native XP mouse drivers, see if its ok then install your mouseware or new drivers from the manufacturers website.

If this all fails then id re-install XP over the top. That would SURELY fix it as a last resort.

I just reinstalled and I'm still having the problem, I remember there being programs that would emulate mouse movement for those long forgotten pay to surf adbanners, and I'm thinking could a virus also do this, It's more of an annoyance than anything else but I still want to get rid of it

I would just take your PS2 mouse out and buy a USB mouse and you should be fine. There is viruses out there that will cause the problems your having. So update your DAT files on your virus scan and do a full scn of your PC. And go USB for the mouse. and if you have a USB mouse go PS2.

Later
Lo

I know it could be a virus, but im doubtful it is one. I run xp pro on a n5430 pavillion notebook and have noticed I went for a whole day without having the mouse problem if I just use the integrated touchpad. Note: on apps that don't use the regular gui, Fruityloops and mIRC this can cause problems as for it being a virus, and I'm sure now that isn't a trojan, the possibility is still there. Maybe I should just stay away from mind numbing mouses anyway.

I don't have WinXP. I have Win98 and I am having the exact some problems y'all are describing with the damn mouse jumping to start and opening menus all over the place. If I'm moving the mouse when it goes freaky and keep trying to move the mouse, it locks up. I've reformatted my harddrives and still the sh*t must be in some software somewhere. But we've had this mouse for 2 years so it's only in the past 5 months I've been having this problem. It has to be a virus of some sort. I'm losing my mind trying to find this thing.

Problem Solved:
Ok you guys who are having the mouse jumping all over the place... If you've had fruityloops 3 on your computer and have uninstalled it, during uninstallation somewhere it replaces interupt controls to your mouse, I re-installed it and my mouse is working again and my memory is not run down(which means my computer won't freeze anymore), yes yes you can all send a thank you to me at jrapp@chartermi.net, I'm still trying to figure out how to uninstall it again without it freaking out, and by the way Im running win98 not xp or me, and it doesn't matter what version you are running because if your interupts aren't correct, your mouse doesn't work as simple as that.
