i have this problem with my Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security anti virus software, everytime i click Updates to update my virus deffinitions i get a error saying
"An error occurred while trying to connect to the Internet. Check your Internet connection and try again. If you connect to the Internet using a proxy server, check the proxy settings. (56)"
i am connected to the internet! and i don't use a proxy to connect, what is going on here? + i use aol

You may not use proxy server but AOL does. AOL Members' requests for internet objects are usually handled by the AOL Proxy system. The workaround is use a different browser to update your AV.

Double click the Trend Icon. Settings tab. Check the box for proxy settings, hit the now functioning proxy settings button. Fill in the address, you may need to contact AOL for this info, port # and if you need to set your id and password.

Woops, after the settings tab, there is the program update in the left tree. Hit that and then you will see the proxy items.
