I have serial cable to use with XP's file transfer application.

I have several thousand emails that I need move.

Any help is appreciated ,

Run Files and Setings Transfer Wizard from XP Start menu.Create flopy with the Wizard on it. Put the flopy in your Win 98 machine and run the Wizard.Select "Old Computer",just "Setings" and location where the file will be saved. Transfer this file to the XP machine using Paralel cable connection. Run The Wizard again, select "New computer","I don't need the Wizard disk.I have already ...". browse and find the transfered file and you are done. All the masages should be in XP OE.
Let me know if not works.I have another idea to.

Here's another way.

On your old machine search for *.dbx files.

When you find them (and they may be quite large if have "thousands" of messages) transfer them to your XP setup here:

C:\Documents and Settings\xxxx\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{84E801F5-13AC-4B89-A2D6-9AF01CDFD9F2}\Microsoft\Outlook Express

Noting that xxxx is your XP login ID and the bit after Identities may be different.

Also be aware that this will overwrite any messages you already have in XP.

To avoid this create another unique folder in your XP setup and when finished transfer the existing messages to their relevant folders.

Outlook Express messages should be in the folder:
c:\win98folder\application data\microsoft\outlook express...
But donīt worry of looking for it, just search for the following string in c:\
"inbox.dbx" (you could put any name of Outlook folder instead of inbox: i.e.: Sent Items, deleted items, depending on your language).
Then find the folder where that is in and copy all the files in it to another folder in your new computer. Then open Outlook Express in Windows XP> menu: tools> options...
Go to the tab "maintenance" or something like that (top-right tab) and go to "Storage folder" (again, something like that, I have it in spanish), that is the second button under "clean now". Choose "change" in the new window and select the folder where you have transferred the old messages in .dbx. Click OK, OK. A message should appear: "there is already a storage folder in it, do you want to use it?" Answer yes and restart Outlook. That should be all.

Got lost? gfd@fibertel.com.ar

Sorry for the mistake, Kinelīs right: the folder is c:\windows\application data\identities\NUMBER (probably not the same Kinel told you) there are them.

The easiest way is to create a folder like c:\messages and copy them there, in the future you will find them easier even if you reinstall Windows they will stay there, if not you will delete them. Then choose it as Storage in Outlook.
